BILLY STRITCH / MARILYN MAYE A Cabaret Double Header: Two Shows on One Great Night! Friday, August 01, 2014 @ 8:00 PM I've Got Your Number: The Jazz of Cy Coleman
Billy Stritch is one of the premier singer-pianists on the New York jazz and cabaret scene, a Grammy winning songwriter and Broadway vet (42nd Street, Liza's At The Palace). In this brand new show that recently played New York's Birdland as well as London (four stars in The London Times!), Billy explores the pop/jazz side of the legendary songwriter Cy Coleman, mainly known as the composer of hit Broadway shows including Sweet Charity, Barnum, On The Twentieth Century, and City of Angels, as well as for his "stand alone" classics such as "The Best Is Yet To Come" and "Witchcraft." Audiences know Stritch as the man behind the music of such stars as Liza Minnelli, but as his dynamic solo shows prove, he, too, is a singular performer of boundless energy and passion.
An Evening with the Marvelous Marilyn Maye Billy Stritch, piano
Marilyn Maye's great career highlights include a Grammy nomination as Best New Artist, 76 appearances on The Tonight Show, with Johnny Carson, Billboard hits, countless club/concert appearances and leading theatrical roles. Her recording of "Too Late Now" is enshrined in the Smithsonian alongside works by Billie Holiday, Frank Sinatra and Judy Garland. Ella Fitzgerald called her one of the greatest singers she knew, and critic Rex Reed states, "She's the real deal, the surviving artist of the American popular singer." Maye is currently enjoying rave reviews throughout the country and is the toast of the New York nightclub, concert and cabaret world. Marilyn's appearance in the 2013 St. Louis Cabaret Festival made St. Louis Post Dispatch critic Sarah Bryan Miller's end-of-year best performance list. |
