Tongue in cheek

Hey everyone. I've heard from various sources that some of the jazz giants do and did use a form of tonguing where their toungue touches the very tip of the reed to the very tip of the tongue. I've heard that this allows for greater tonguing speed and is quite useful in jazz articulation. When I tongue the front middle part of my tongue touches the tip of the reed. Is this fact true or does everyone tongue my way? ;-) Cheers, Dark Eyes (unloved thesis)

    Re: Tongue in cheek

The traditional way to tongue, whether you play jazz or not, is to touch the reed with the tip of the tongue, as you would pronounce the letter "T".

Different parts of the tounge and reed prduce different sounds. Use them for different effects. Obviously.
