SML Altos

Hello - I am interested in SML altos - tried one that played great, killer response,etc., but intonation was awful. Is there a particular model / serial# range I should look for? I know a lot has to do with the mouthpiece, but I'm hoping I can use my primary ones. Thanks, JG
