Can anyone help me?

Recently came upon a sax with the following engraving on the bell -Selmer-American Elkhart-Ind. U.S.A . On the back the following is stamped (not engraved) Paid Sept.14, either 1945 OR 1915. then 1153489 with an A under it, then 46058 with a L under that. I think the 1153489 is a serial # but looking at SN listing I can't place it. I have never seen any discussion about the paid stamp. Can anyone help me? Thanks!!!

what looks like Paid is actually Pat'd, and the long 1153489 is a patent number. the serial number is the shorter one, 46058. The A stands for "Alto" and the L is for Low pitch, compatible with today's standard--a good thing!
