AHHH! This is an never-dying issue with players learning altissimo. Don't change your set-up to facilitate altissimo. Lenny Pickett might use a Guardala Super King that he can play 30 octaves above the usual register of the horn on, but I'm sure he could do it on a Yamaha 4C if he had to. Have you read Top-tones by Sigurd Rascher?

      Re: altissimo

Hey thanks..yes I have the Rascher book...I play a berg metal 110/0 and have tried guardala Super King too. I can go up the scale to D on my mark VI with both mpc but do have trouble comig down especially g# to g. I think I must spend more time blowing to get the harmonics with all notes closed...anyway thanks to all for comments....Happysax

Mouthpiece and reeds won't really do much. A mouthpiece with a higher baffle will help a bit, but you shouldn't rely on it. Like you said, just practice and practice, there's really no shortcuts for altissimo. But I guess if there were, everyone could do it and it wouldn't be as cool as it is right? ;)
