    yea the neck will effect your sound, but i own a Ref 54 Alto also and i am just curious as why you woul want to change the beautiful sound created by the dark laq. And to answer your question, silver will be brighter and copper and unlaq. horns will be darker with my experience.

      I got the brushed antique looking finish instead of the dark laquer. It prolly doesnt make that much of a difference, but I'm sure there is some.
