Yamaha yts23 is an excellent beginner/student instrument. I'd go after one of those...and also a qualified teacher..good luck.

Thanks, Chalazon, for the input. Strangely enough, I did some sluething on my own and came to the same conclusion. I found a YTS-23 in pretty good condition on ebay and got it in the mail yesterday! Had it inspected by a local music shop, and they said it was a quality instrument and a great deal. Makes me feel good to check back now and see your recommendation. And yes, I'll definitely be going after a teacher. I've tought myself a few instruments, but I have no experience with anything with reeds. Not sounding too great 2 days in.

thanks for the lovely reply..glad I could be of help. My first sax teacher asked me, ;Do you want to have good tone? Give yourself about 10 years.; So I did . Just remember, it's a process.
