Steve Lacy RIP

I don't know if this has already been posted, but legendary jazz soprano saxophonist Steve Lacy died earlier this month. Here's a link to his obit: www.allaboutjazz.com/php/news.php?id=3762 I was fortunate to have seen him several times in Portland Oregon and Austin Texas. The last time I saw him in Austin, I thought his touring days might be coming to an end. He seemed tired. I really enjoyed his cerebral approach (he didn't play with a lot of in your face fire and pyrotechnics...which can be fun too). I loved his bass player too Jean-Jacques Avanel. Somebody is going to be very lucky to hook up with him. Anyway, I am grateful to Steve for the legacy he left and the inspiration he's been to me during all my years of playing the old straight horn. I'm sure others share this sentiment. If you haven't heard him, I recommend his trio recordings. The Rent is one of my favorites. Jason
