Beginner mouthpiece?

What would be a good beginner mouthpiece for my 9 year old son? Was looking at a yamaha 4c? Oh yeah, he will be playing Alto sax.

That is a perfect mouthpiece for beginner. Cheap and much better than a stock piece.

Thank you for the reply. Another question, what reed should I get for him? I noticed they come in different strengths? Anything else I should be getting him? Thank you so much for your help. Paul

There are quite a few different brands of reeds, but Vandoren (traditional, in the blue box) or Rico reeds are ideal for students. Rico are cheaper, but Vandoren are much better quality. Keep in mind that most beginning students break their reeds often. In regards to strength, go with a 2 for now. As he progresses, his lungs will become stronger and he will need stronger reeds. Best Wishes, Brad

Thank you very much. I ended up getting the 4c and some Rico 2 reeds. Paul
