Conn 26M restore or keep original?

Hello, I found a good original 26M and took it to our local restorer who has done some great work for us in the past. Everything that I am seeing says that this is not a common find. I want to do right by it. Should it be kept original -just repair/repad or should it be restored and relacquered. Thanks

I hope this answer is timely for your situation. My opinion is that relacquering a horn is not a good idea for a variety of reasons. Cybersax has an excellent discussion of the issue. There are good horns with good relacquer jobs that have their value depressed by the mere fact of being relacquered. Lucky you if you're the buyer; unlucky you if you're the seller. I prefer bare brass, but stripping that 26M might have the same market value issues as relacquering.
