The Elkhart question?

My husband has inheritted a sax from his grandfather and we are looking for more information. I have tried googling the serial number and haven't found any good information. We'd like to know it's history and the year it was made so hoping someone could point us in the right dirrection for some research.

The inscription:    The

                        Elkhart

                    Band - Inst.- Co

                         Elkhart

                            Ind.

This is inscribed inside a heart with the Elk above.

Serial number :  53304

                           LP

this is inscribed as I have typed it here.

any information anyone has or a good place to look into the history of this Sax would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Holley

    It stands for "low pitch".

Try this website for serial numbers:

      Thanks for the info.

I did not see Elkhart mentioned on this site at all though. I did see Buesher and I know that they were linked in some form or fasion at one point or another but nothing that makes me think it's our Sax they are referring to.

        Re: The Elkhart question?

There is no reliable serial number list for the Elkhart Band Instrument Co. The serial number list for Buescher is on the saxophone.org web site in the saxophone museum section as well as on several other web sites. But this has no bearing on serial numbers from the Elkhart Band Instrument Co.

For a detailed discussion of the Elkhart Band Instrument Co. See this discussion on this forum:

          Re: The Elkhart question?

Thanks again for all the info Mark.  Fortunantly we are not looking to sell the Sax! LOL

However we are finding the story of Elkhart Band Instrument Company very interesting. Oh the tangled webs! I am going to search for that article you mentioned in the other thread as well. It's fun learning about this instrument.

Some Elkhart Co. horns were made by Martin. http://www.saxophone.org/forum/thread/id/21747/name/Elkhart+Alto+Identification+-+Elkhart+Band+Instrument+Co+or+Martin+Stencil
