New member and just starting to play...

Hello everyone Im a new member and have been learning the saxophone for about a year...I have never taken lessons but I do know lessons would be very helpful... living in a small town its not easy to find someone that gives saxophone lessons...I play by ear and have not had too many problems with the horn...I always been able to play instruments like guitar, piano and organ...I have always wanted to play the saxophone at an early age but never did...have been married for 45 years with two children and 4 grandchildren... I now have retired from our family buisness which my son now runs and decided at the young age of 62 to buy myself a tenor yamaha saxophone....I try to practice every day or so sometimes just a few minutes and sometimes longer... I have always enjoyed rock & roll and swamp pop music,  so I guess this would be the music I've got my sights on....I enjoy just playing something I have come up with...the one thing I have always done in my life is listen to other people and learn..and I never had a problem in life starting at the bottom... I welcome any sugestions from members concerning the Saxophone.... thanks Spencer

Hi Spencer, You have the good fortune of learning the saxophone with all sorts of online resources available. I could have benefitted from such resources as a self-taught player some years ago. If you ever feel the need for lessons, you can get them online. There are some good teachers who offer Skype lessons. Bestsaxophonewebsiteever.com is an excellent portal into the online teaching world, with some good pointers on the basics on the site itself and links to free and paid online lessons. The Bulletproof Saxophone Playing package advertized on this site has gotten good press from some top level players and teachers. It was compiled by the guy who runs bestsaxophonewebsiteever. No, I am not affiliated with that site, but I think the guy who runs it is doing a tremendous job of providing resources for developing and advancing players.
