        Re: What's your setup?

Well, I'm a player, not a collector, so that post is a little hard to follow... Soprano Yanagisawa S9930 Morgan jazz piece Morgan Excalibur Franois Louis Lig/Alexander DCs Alto '54 MkVI 6*-8* hard rubber links(depends on the band and style) Stock ligs or Olegature/Vandorens or DCs Selmer Ref(don't use it much at all) No particular setup YAS 875-EX Morgan Jazz Morgan Excalibur Alexander superial DCs Tenor Selmer Model 52 Series II In the process of switching setups right now. I sold my sopranino, because I just never really had a use for it. I'm really an alto player, and usually only play the tenor and soprano in small groups.

          What's your setup?

Hey, I play all of the saxes even the grafton. I recently played the Soprillo, Sopranino, Slide C-Soprano, Straight Tenor, and Contrabass at a show in Santa Anita with the Violent Femmes. I played on 7 songs: -Waiting for the Bus------------------- straight tenor -Mirror Mirror (I see a damsel)------- Contrabass -I Held her in my arms---------------- Contrabass -Some "classical Beethoven piece"...... I played some really fast jazz licks in F then worked down to low F .... then I played Blister In The Sun. The crowd went nuts! Brian Ritchie introduced the "Classical" piece, so the crowd didn't know what to expect~ it was awesome!--------------- Contrabass -Black Girls------------------------------- Contrabass -Confessions------------------------------ Contrabass -Gone Daddy Gone------------------ Swanee slide sax -Brian Ritchie closed the show with a five minute circular breathing solo on the Orsi curved SOPRANINO! It was amazing, and the contrast between the contrabass & sopranino on stage was ridiculously.....amazing (at a loss for words). Playing with the Femmes is awesome and allows me to showcase some of the more unknow saxes. I am glad to be a member of the Horns of Dilemma. ~Blaise~

        Re: What's your setup?

I'll put in my setup, too . . . SOPRANO (jazz) -Yanagisawa S9930 (straight) -Selmer S80 d mpc or Otto Link Metal 6* -Stock lig -La Voz med hard reed ALTO (legit) -Yamaha Custom Z (silver) -Selmer S80 C* mpc -Rovner Dark lig -La Voz med or med hard reed ALTO (jazz) -Yamaha Custom Z (silver) -Meyer 6M mpc -Stock (Meyer) lig or Olegature -La Voz med TENOR (jazz) -Selmer Mark VI ('54 or '55) -Otto Link Custom Tenney 7* mpc or E. Rousseau SJ7 -Stock ligs -La Voz med soft or Rico Royal 2 1/2 reeds I really enjoy playing all my setups. My soprano gives me a great tone for jazz and is very consistent. My jazz alto (which I play the most) sounds like a true jazz alto should, and my legit is very controlled and smooth, but not quite as "dark" as I would like it to be (something I'm working on). Tenor is good, also.

          Re: What's your setup?

A sliver 82z would be hard to tame for legit. I understand why you're having issues trying to get a darker tone. The Z was more aimed at jazz players as it is, and with the silver plate on it, it's got to be a tonal nightmare as far a legit.

              Re: What's your setup?

The LT I got a couple years ago and I've hardly played it: $95 The Soloist is $125 (its in great condition)...its a great mouthpiece, but I hardly play it because its not what I want for legit, and its definitely not a jazz piece to me. I don't know if this is the case with vintage soloists, or it is my cork, but the soloist is too big for my horn's cork and i have to use paper to keep it on there... any thoughts?

while I drool at all your setups, I'll put mine in. School Tenor YTS23 (it's been through some rough times, and shows it) 4C Yamaha Standard Lig Whatever I can find around in my locker for reeds, usually a V16 Regular Tenor YTS62II Stock Mouthpiece Robert Vinson Lig My best reeds are those expensive alexanders, right now I'm experimenting. Clarinet ( dont' play very much, I have a special disliking for it) Selmer USA student clarinet stock lig and mouthpiece Mitchell Lurie Single Premium Reeds I hate the clarinet, but it might just be my mouthpiece. What's a really good clarinet mouthpiece that gives you a "almost good as a sax" tone?

Hmm, I hadn't thought of that. I know the music instructor at one of the area middle schools... I will check with her about it and see what she thinks. If worse comes to worse I could always hold onto it in case a neice or nephew want to play.
