Good First Horn?

Looking at a Yamaha YAS-23A alto as a gift for an adult student. Any idea what the "A" after the 23 stands for? Horn is in very decent used condition, inspected by a local music store and checked out OK. They are asking $600, sound fair?

The A means for the quality of the horn. So its an A. meanign its in good shape. 600 is about fair its a beginner. or you can see if can find a cheaper used one out there but i doubt you will.

Martinman: For the adult beginner, "in good playing condition" is much more important than the brand and model of sax....... SGT17594
