vintage selmer

anyone know about vintage selmer cigar cutter 'supersax' alto from 1930s? good horn or not? seen one in good condition but wondering if it is worth a long journey to try it out!? also what kinda price should i be looking for, presuming it is in as good a condition as they say it is!!

    I have played a couple, but never owned one. I think they're comparable Buffet and some of the other French-made saxophones of the time, maybe even a little better, but personally, I don't think they're as good as some of the American horns of the time. The Selmer Super Balanced Action is the horn that really started the Selmer trend, and of course, the Mark VI became one of the most popular saxophones of all time. The cigar cutter Selmers are neat horn, but not as valuable as the Balanced Action, Super Balanced Action or the Mark VI. Don't pay too much for one!
