Scam Alert: Holton Bass
I saw on online ad --FreeClassifieds.com, I think--for a Holton made 1927 bass. It had a long commentary about the date of manufacture, saying that one esteemed store owner/player/collector had it all wrong. Whatever...is it still for sale?
A couple days later, email reply, yep. Great...but, why so cheap?
Reply soon: I have to get back to Poland and can't take it.
OK..a bit suspicious. Google led me to saxontheweb.net, where I found a topic dealing with Holton stencils, etc, and the exact picture of the one I was just looking at. It was from a for sale ad in 2013, the guy promised all sorts of stuff but never came through with the instrument. I don't know if this is the same guy, same guy different identity, or what, but I wanted to alert folks.
There's been a long-running Tuba scam involving a solid copper tuba. The thing really does exist, and is owned by a collector, but it has been on eBay several times since he bought it...never listed by the owner.
These scammer people are lousy.
