Gday im in perth Yamaha make great beginner saxes, but when your ability increases (and if u like yamaha) you should definately go for a Custom Z or Custom EX, ive tried these and they're beautiful.

With the mouthpiece, otto links are fantastic with the music, you just transpose it up an octave then down a minor 3rd and you can play it on your alto

Perhaps a Rico Royal Graftonite would be suitable for your replacement. These are reliable and affordable.
