Longer shank MP for vintage Conn?

A respected friend recently advised that a mouthpiece of greater length is the designers' original choice for Conn's such as mine. I play a New Wonder Series I, serial no. 56XXX. I typically use a Meyer 7L or Brilhart 5*. After steady practice with a Yamaha 5CM I have noticed a more focused sound and the horn has a more consistant tonal quality. Any similar experiences? I am planning a trip to WWBW to sample longer mouthpieces for purchase. Suggestions?
