Which reed?

I'm a amateur sax student who buys "3 1/2" reeds. All of my friends say that they make my sax harder to play, but they seem to be no problem to me. Would switching to prone-to-play-good "2 to 2 1/2" improve my playing?

for classical, i'd stick with the 3 1/2, but for jazz, go 2 1/2 to 3. It is a good thing that you can handle 3 1/2 no problem.

Its fine that you can play with a 3 1/2 but sometimes it will make your tone too edgy. If that's the case then just drop down a 1/2 step in the reed's stiffness. I had to do that a couple years ago for that reason and my overall tone is worlds better. Hope this helps!

Reed strengths are VERY individual. For example, I do better with a 3 1/2 on tenor and 3 on alto even though my tenor pieces are much more open. Different reeds work well for different people.
