Basic Question

Does black lacquer affect a sax's tone? What about a black nickel instrument?

      Re: Basic Question

try out a bunch of different laquers and find out first hand.. from what ive experienced its not the laquer that really changes tone and projection, its the metal used in the sax.. silver will resonate different than brass, which will resonate different than the bronze yani-s and so on.. so just try a few out if ur looking for a new sax.. get a matte finish, black nickel, silver, laquered, un laquered.. wont hurt to try rite?

        Re: Basic Question

search this site (and the web) for more threads like this. There was a great link about flute's made of different material (silver, gold, platinum) and did a blind test to see if other pro flute players could identify the horns correctly. They couldn't. which implys that material has little to do with sound. It's more the design of the horn, than the material it's made of.
