This is a great early vintage Selmer Paris large bore “Super” model tenor sax, serial number 13381. This is a fantastic 1930 vintage Selmer. It was overhauled by Chris Watrous of the Saxquest shop in 2011, using premium Valentino firm leather pads and a set of Tenor Madness’s custom oversized flat metal resonators. It feels great and plays better!
As you can see in the photos this tenor is in surprisingly good shape for its age. It has a couple resoldered joints, on the low B/Bb and alternate F# keyguards, but all done professionally, and the lacquer is still in very good shape throughout the horn. It features a beautiful intricate push-cut engraving rarely seen on these Selmer Paris saxes. The neck has never been pulled down or damaged.
These older Selmers are a lot of fun to play. This tenor retains the dark core that makes Selmer so recognizable, but overall it has a slightly more spread quality. Because of this, it seems much more free than what you traditionally find on a Mark VI or newer horn. This is a great tenor for the player wanting a Selmer that feels a little more open.
