older saxophone identification

I recently acquired my husband's old sax - the only markings show 1374 Made in Italy - where do I begin to find out where or who made this sax - my husband has had it for 40 years - I can post pics if necessary - it is in great condition and the mouthpiece says made in france - it has decorative etchings on the front and I believe it is an alto - thanks for any help
