A YAS23 is fine, I think. As far as age goes, I don't think it matters that much as long as it is in good playing condition. And in saxophone world, 10 years is really not very old. Many professionals use a model called the Selmer Mark VI that varies from 30 to 50 years old, approximately. Hey Rookie Mom, Me too! Son starting band in grade 7 in Sept. Here we go! Hope they stick with it and enjoy it as much as I think they will. I want to learn with him! We just got a King Cleveland 613. The YAS23 was has been recommended in almost all I have read. I am currently teaching my son how to clean it. Good Luck and let me know sometime how it is going!
