    The originals were .185 with a small flat nickel plated brass resonator. You can easily use modern pads (.160 thickness) without a problem. Of course, I usually use Saxgourmet kangaroo leather pads, which are .160. I've done about 20 SML's using these with good results. Be sure your tone holes are level!

        I bought my first one in 1972, before the were considered "cool".
