    Any song by Joe Henderson. Dark sound, and absolutely gorgeous...Anything by Tom Scott..bright sound.

        im surprised you didnt mention early Coleman Hawkins for dark

          huh, well, i dont think of Coleman Hawkins at any time using a particularly dark sound. could you site a recording? Lester Young, definately, but Bean?

          early coleman hawkins, earlier the darker. the 1939 recording of body and soul on the centennial collection cd comes to mind. lovely sound. i dont think lester young was paticularly dark, compared to some of the other people of the time. compared to alot of the people now, everybody back then sounded dark
