The * indicates a 1/2 facing size - so in the case of a tenor 7* (.105"), it is halfway between a 7 (.100") and an 8 (.110"). The * has nothing to do with quality. That's another discussion entirely when talking about Links... These are the specifications - the actual measurement can be off. Sometimes significantly, but normally close enough not to worry about it. Check out www.saxontheweb.net.
