I'll probably get argued with on this, but Vandoren's makin a pretty beefy metal peice these days too. I've got one for tenor, and it play way better than I ever expected.

Re: whats the skinny on vandoren optimum ligatures

I use the optimum on my metal tenor florida link...it opens up the upper register especially. I use the plate with two rails perpendicular to the reed mostly. It seems to give me a better core sound that way. The plates really do change the sound considerably. As for sizing-the V5 is for rubber (i have a buddy who uses the V5 on his alto meyer and it fits perfectly) and the V16 is for metal moutpieces, but it is made for their V16 and doesnt fit a wide range of metal pieces. It fits my link because the ridge has been sanded off the top, and i had to add a bit of material under the ligature to get a better grip, since taking the rail off was too much. The rail was gone when I bought the piece so I dunno how it fits with the rail. But yea-Give the optimum a try. Its good stuff

Vandoren Optimum without a doubt. The cloth on Rovner don't allow the reed to get full repsonse. You're better off with a stock metal lig than a Rovner
