OLD Italian Alto sax, need to ID. Can you help a newbie?

We just found this site during our search for information. Hello, and thanks in advance. We have a very old alto sax. Serial number is 9940. It has ' Italy' stamped on the body near where the neck attaches. The engraving is not distinctivej, but the word 'Thor' is in the center of the design. Now, I've never heard of an Italian musical instrument named after a Norse god. could it be the name of the musician? Has anyone heard of this? Sorry, no photos handy.

I actualy have a saxophone, that i bought from my band director, that sounds alot like what you describe. Im not to sure but im pretty sure its a rare-ish company that probably went out of buisness. Ive been trying to figure out were it came from but havnt got any thing. I do think it was a company though........hope this helps.
