Conn 26M restore or keep original?

Hello, I found a good original 26M and took it to our local restorer who has done some great work for us in the past. Everything that I am seeing says that this is not a common find. I want to do right by it. Should it be kept original -just repair/repad or should it be restored and relacquered. Thanks

I hope this answer is timely for your situation. My opinion is that relacquering a horn is not a good idea for a variety of reasons. Cybersax has an excellent discussion of the issue. www.cybersax.com/QA/Q&A_Relacquering_Pros_&_Cons.html There are good horns with good relacquer jobs that have their value depressed by the mere fact of being relacquered. Lucky you if you're the buyer; unlucky you if you're the seller. I prefer bare brass, but stripping that 26M might have the same market value issues as relacquering.
