Where to find saxophone info

Hi all,

I recently purchased my first saxophone; it is a used one.

The saxophone has been sprayed with a gold color. I have scraped the paint on a few places of, and have seen that the body has a gold color.

Don't know how old it is and what brand, but I have found a serial number (990438) on the back of it.

On the neck I see three letters "SML", but I don't think I can assume that would be the brand, because from doing some reading on the neck I have seen that other necks can be used on the saxophone body.

Can you help me identify my saxophone.

Your help is appreciated.

SML serial numbers don't go anywhere near the 990xxx.  SML did produce a lot of stencil horns sold under different brands, so there's a possibility that your horn is an SML stencil with an SML neck.  The serial number would be the marketer's serial number, not SML's.  Maybe the SML photo gallery at Saxpics.com can help you figure your horn out.

      GFC, thanks for the reply.

I have found a name on the side on the bell after scraping away the paint layer: Palmer.

      Does that ring a bell?

Never heard of it.  Mysterious even by stencil standards.
