Metal Mouthpiece

My son (12) just bought a Yanagisawa #7 (circa 1980s) for his tenor and it sounds great but the plating has come off. Is this a hazard for his health? Should we have it replated, return and get a new mouthpiece, something else? Please share your experiences. Thanks.

    Re: Metal Mouthpiece

Some people have copper allergies, otherwise brass in the mouth isn't a problem. Plating is strictly for looks. Yanagisawa has always made good mouthpieces.
