Broken sax?

I just acquired a used saxophone for a friend. I played briefly when I was in the 5th grade, but I am obviously still at the very beginning stages of my learning. I bought a new reed, assembled the instrument and tried to play but no sound is coming out. Can someone help me? The saxophone is in fine condition, but it's obviously old and hasn't been played for a while.
