Martin Imperial Alto

OK, so I know this is not a handcraft Martin Imperial.  The bell is engraved with the words Martin and Imperial.  Made in Elkhart.  What I don't understand is why the serial number is higher than any list on this site.  Serial #305717.  It has been badly buffed in a refinishing job some time in its' past.  I will say that the tone hole chimneys are still solidly soldered on  The scale seems to be quite good.  Does anyone understand the serial number anomoly?

    Re: Martin Imperial Alto

The confusion arises from the fact that Martin recycled the "Imperial" name for a line of student horns in the mid to late 1960s.  Martin serial number records are vague for the period after they were acquired by Wurlitzer circa 1964.
