Greetings all, I recently acquired a Martin sax serial # 36034. I know nothing about vintage instruments, so I am seeking some advice. Is this sax worth restoring, junking, or just selling as is?
Martin Handcraft from 1923. Sell as is. The good news is that it's a low pitch horn, which is playable with modern ensemble tuning and it looks undamaged. The bad news is that it is antiquated from a keywork standpoint (no front F key), which makes it a horn for historical horn buffs only. The unknowns are mechanical wear and whether it's a tenor or a c-melody. C-melody horns are less valuable. Check the length of the body tube to the bottom of the bow. If it's close to 25 inches it is a c-melody. If it's close to 30 inches it's a tenor.
Thank you for the information! I was wondering how to distinguish between a tenor or something else. I will measure it and repost. Would you have a ball bark figure by chance if it were a tenor?
