Rodphone? Exotic Italian variant?

Hi! Thanks for letting me onto the forum...

I am a translator working on a history of the saxophone (which is fascinating!).

I've come across reference to a "rodphone", which apparently was made in Italy in the 1920s, looked like a saxophone, sounded like one, but wasn't....that's all the info I have and I am finding it impossible to find it (I did a really deep google search trying to check spelling, but can't find it at all!)

Is it possible the person has mispelled it completely? Would anyone have any creative ideas about what it might be?

Thanks for any help...

    Hi Cat-
You're talking about a Rothophone. These are interesting double reed instruments. You can google them to find out all kinds of information.
