Bought a Horn with Tuner NOW WHAT??

I bought a Soprano and with the horn came a electric guitar tuner. Question?? What note do I play and what am I looking for on the tuner? Do I just blow the note until tuner shows what ? A Note? The needle moving to middle at 440? Thanks for any help somebody can give Thanks

    If it's a guitar tuner it will only have concert E, A,D,G,B, and E with the low E below the range of your horn.  You would need to transpose up a whole step to hit those tuning notes on a horn keyed to Bb.  If it's a chromatic tuner it will simply read out any note you play in concert pitch.  IMO it's not worth dealing with the limitations of a guitar tuner when inexpensive clip-on piezo chromatic tuners like the ones made by Snark are available.  They work off the vibration of the horn, so you don't get sudden twitches from random noise.  

    Intonation is difficult with a soprano, so working with a tuner is well worth your while.

    Put the tuner in a drawer and forget about it.....learn to play the horn.
