Vintage Martin tenor

I just purchased a Martin handcraft tenor serial #8079x from a private party for $150. Can anyone tell me approximately when the sax was made? It needs a little adjusting and maybe a few pads. Any suggestions for repair shops in or near Portland, OR.

    Re: Vintage Martin tenor

By the serial number you have given, the horn dates between 1927 and 1928. You have a great horn there, I have a brace of The Martin Committee horns i.e. S/A/T/B and love them. The Handcraft models are earlier horns, but great none the less. I can't recommend a better Sax Tech than Steve A.K.A Sarge at World Wide Sax: www.worldwidesax.com. He has a great collection of Vintage horns, including many Martins, and is an expert in dealing with adjustment, restoration and setup of vintage Martins. He is located in Washington state, but you can mail your horn to him, and I can assure you it will be well worth the effort. I have him work on all of my horns. Mike
