notes between middle octave B flat and C sharp not playing right?

I've been playing saxophone for about seven years, and have been playing on the current alto sax (yamaha) I have for about four years. Recently, a new issue has developed with all the notes between middle octave b flat through c sharp. At whatever dynamic, though it's more prevalent in the softer ones, the notes seem to just come out very squeaky then die off. It's not as much of an issue with higher dynamics because it's easier to cover up. Its only in this octave, and only those notes. Could it be an instrument problem? Or has my embouchure/ other technique just gotten worse without me noticing?

My first suspicion is that your neck octave key may be opening slightly from A on up.  Try holding it down as you blow through G to C# and see if the problem persists.
