Vandoren: I play a metal Otto Link STM 7, and it gives me exactly that husky dark tone you're talking about. I also sometimes use a hard rubber Berg Larsen 105/2, which is brighter, and has more power (I think the 105 is slightly wider than the Link 7), but it's a bit harder for me to control. I love the dark tone of the Link, so that's the one usually on my 10M.
