    Re: sound

I'd have to say that at least 80% of the problem would be the emboucher

embochure is a lot of it. also reed size and style can contribute. also when you play make sure you are blwoing from down in your abdomen so you use all of your lungs

There are many factors. Embouchre is definately one of them. The mouthpiece and reed also make a huge difference. I would try a mouthpiece with a fairly large open chamber, like the Otto Link Tone Edge. This is one of the best mouthpieces I have found for alto. What kind of horn are you playing?

how odd, no one mentioned an obvious one...AIR! Most people think it goes without saying, but good air support is critical and NOT performed by most wind players...Long tones, with varied and changing dynamics (ex. pppppp or FFF>ppp

Right ON phathorn (saxman 227 read problem with high G in general discussion ) support is everything embouchure controls the color of the tone not how full it is,,, fullness is an air function YOU HAVE GOT TO PLAY THE BORE ,,NOT THE REED
