Flute to Tenor Sax Tips

I am switching from flute to tenor sax in highschool marching band for the lack of another tenor sax player. Our band director said their note fingerings are similar and it should be easy to learn. I am having trouble seeing that and keeping a steady sound(Plus next year in will be the ONLY tenor sax player). Any tips on how to survive the year as a tenor sax?
