Hirum K Elles Elkhart USA Alto

I was hoping a knowledgeable member of this forum might know something about this Saxophone I recently acquired...a silver plated Hirum K Elles, Elkhart, USA Alto sax.
Not too worried about the value, more interested in it's history as I haven't found anything on the internet about it.

    That is an odd saxophone.

    Is there any numbers or dates around the lower thumb rest?

    I do not recognize the overal layout as a major producer.

    This is a definite Stencil. The name on the bell is who paid a manufaturer to produce a number of instruments with their name "stenciled" on it, not the manufacturer. That is what is know as a stencil. It is Not necessarily American made either. With that in mind, there are not many with that exact engraving.

    More info needed.

      Hi thanks for the reply. The serial number near the thumb rest is 15670 if that helps at all...
