Yamaha YAS 26 Alto Sax

Hello All!

I am new to the sax and this Forum, been playing guitar for a while and decided to scratch a very old itch! I'm looking for a decent student sax and found a Yamaha YAS 26 for $1K. I checked out a few resources on line and the price seems reasonable but has anyone owned one of these instruments? Is it a good student sax?

Any input is most welcome!

Dave

Re: Yamaha YAS 26 Alto Sax

Yamaha has taken the lead as the go to producer for

student instruments. They are produced cheaper in China today.

They are easy to work on if you need a technician. For a student line new instrument,

I would go no place else but Yamaha. But once you buy it, it is now used.

With that said, I personally would get an older student yamaha made in Japan off Craigslist. It will be heavier, made with a better brass mixture, and hold its value in the used market. You can get a good playing one in good condition for 650 or less. There are many more used saxophones out there than there are sax players.

But, some new players want a fresh, unused horn.

    So pay that extra!!

    I hope this helps.

    Good Luck

Thanks for  the comments. That does help.

I also found a Jupiter Artist X Professional series for the same price ($1K). This instrument seems to be a step or maybe two above a beginner level. Is it much (if any) more difficult to learn on a mid level horn vs. a student model?
