"... previously unheard live recordings by John Coltrane"

July can't come fast enough.

"A collection of previously unheard live recordings by John Coltrane, backed by Eric Dolphy, are set to be released this July through Impulse!

The recordings featured on Evenings At The Village Gate: John Coltrane With Eric Dolphy were captured during Coltrane's 1961 residency at New York jazz club Village Gate, for which he was joined by a lineup of musicians that included Dolphy, McCoy Tyner, Reggie Workman and Elvin Jones. The recordings were recently discovered at The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, having been originally captured by engineer Rich Alderson as part of a test of the club's new sound system. You can listen to the live recording of 'Impressions' from the release just below."

Adolphe Sax invented his instrument in anticipation of John Coltrane.
