Re: buy what sax
I think they're a decent beginner-intermediate sax. They have a nice sound, and good intonation. The LaVoix, like so many of the horns on the market today, including Cannonball, Antigua Winds, Jupiter, and several others, is made in Taiwan.
I'm an old-school sax player. I play mostly vintage American music (jazz, blues, swing, funk, 50's rock and roll) on vintage American horns. I started out on a 1948 Conn 10M Naked Lady, which is still my main sax today....20+ years later.
I have tested several new saxophones by several manufacturers. There are some very nice horns that are made in Taiwan, even though a year ago, you would have had a hard time convincing me of that. You just don't see the kind of craftsmanship and quality in today's horns that was common in those made in the 1930's through the 1950's.
