quick question...please help

what does the star mean in a mouthpiece facing. looking at an otto link for tenor. want a 7. but do i want a 7 or 7*. what's the difference? thanks for the help. -nick

    its an in between size it goes 7, &*, 8, 8*... etc its like 7.5

    I have a 7* metal Otto Link for alto and the tip is really open, I have to use a #2 vandoren and gives me a really bright and open sound. I don't know if that is what you want, I'm just giving you a little info before you make your purchase.

    What mouthpiece(s) do you use now? You probably want to limit the difference between the opening you're used to and a new piece. A change of .010 in. or more could take quite a while to learn to control...

      Otto link tenor : Size 7=.1 Inch opening (.100) Size 7*=.105 Inch opening Here is a decent comparison chart of some mouthpieces : www.saxophone.org/facings.html
