Here is a real beauty – an early vintage Selmer Cigar Cutter alto sax in a gold matte finish, serial number 14207. This horn has well over 95% of the original gold plating remaining, and looks stunning.
This horn was made in 1931, but you wouldn’t know it to look at it! The only finish wear is on a couple touch points, and there are no dents or dings, no resoldered joints, and no history of past repairs on the sax. Even the original neck is perfect, having never been damaged or pulled down. The engraving on these earlier Selmers is quite remarkable, as seen in the pictures.
This beauty is a real sweet player, with a lush velvety sound and a rich, enveloping-like tone. It is a much more flexible horn than what the later Selmers became, and has a slightly darker sound as well. It is one of those horns that is just fun to play.
