C.G. CONN Gold Plate Art Deco Transitional (Serial Number: 245512) Back to model

This is a beautiful matte gold plated C. G. Conn "transitional" alto sax, serial number 245512. This alto has many features of both the earlier Chu Berry horns, as well as the later 6M altos, and is in spectacular condition.

The sax has over 99% original gold plating intact, with just mild wear on a couple touch points. It has a brushed matte finish body, and burnished (shiny) gold plated keys and inlay engraving. It features beautiful art deco engraving on the full length of the bell. The original neck shows a little more finish wear, but is physically perfect and has the underslung octave key.

This horn has great features like rolled tone holes, and a trill G# key. Both bell keys are on the left side, as opposed to the earlier models which had them split on opposite sides. The sax was fully repadded at Saxquest in 2008 using top grade pads and flat metal resonators.

This is a very sweet playing alto. It has a darker kind of sound, very sweet and melodic. The sound stays open up and down the horn and it has a very fast response. Gold plated Conns of this vintage are not easy to find, and this is a great example of a well built vintage American made horn.
