I don't have an answer for you but I do share in your question. I just bought a reference 54 alto and am having trouble with the sound that the neck is producing. I tried a regular series III laquer neck and it sounded SO much better, more defined and not fuzzy anymore. So there is definitely hope. I'm gonna try out the sliver and copper necks that selmer offers now to see if there is a major difference.
