Bright, dark, or somewhere in-between? I'm enjoying a Vandoren Java that I consider in-between...

Jgarrett927, what is your "be best to get a jazz sound" sound like? Just wondering since that's about the most important thing you could have told us.

But everyone has a different perspective on a "jazz sound". Some like it dark, some like it paint-peeling bright and edgy.

            Re: New Mouthpiece?

if you like it dark then a vandoren jumbo java will not work for you those are pretty bright mouthpieces, id look for something with out a large baffle, and a larger bore. These pieces tend to require more air and dont harness the high harmonics as much to get that bright eric marienthal sound. I personaly like the Selmer Soloist Size F facing, but a cheap good starter jazz piece is a meyer of a medium facing size 6. You can get them for like under 60 bucks or gently used for even cheaper. ALways know what you want, right down to sound, resistance, reed size, ease in all registers ect. If you know these specs, pretty much all mouthpieces will work some just better than others. greg
